Do you put God first?
I’ll give you a second to process.
About a year ago i decided to push myself and become a full time photographer. During my decision process I thought about all the free time I would have. How I would get back in the gym because I would have more time, how I could cook all my meals now because; I had more time. I thought somehow I would be this master of time or God would put some extra hours in my day. Never happened...
As the pressure to build up my new business mounted, I had one focus. Be successful! It is all that I thought about. I would wake up in the morning get on my phone, send out a few emails and text messages seeking out brands to work with. From the phone to the computer, from the computer to the camera. Then go out network, then hang out, then watch TV. This was my daily routine. My only break was for church, but even then i was on my phone.
After a few months of this cycle and things settled down a little. That’s another way of me saying i didn’t have any work for a few weeks, I was panicked. My wife said to me “don't worry God is working something out for you”. Total cliche christian thing to say. I responded with “yeah you’re right”. She left the room and i sat there, that’s when i heard the Holy Spirit say to me “I told you to quit your job, not God” I almost cried! “God What! I pray every day, multiple times a day”. Those few seconds of prayer during the day were not sufficient enough to say that i had a real relationship with God. There was no real quality time spent, the majority of my time was in front of a screen or behind a camera.
Daily I have to pray and invite God into my day, invite him to take control and show me where i should be heading. This journey is not easy, but having a better relationship with God has helped me establish better time management, my day is much more settled and he has never left me without. Some days I slip back into old habits but the Holy Spirit always brings me back into the fold. My prayer for you is that today you will put God first in your life.
Matthew 6:33 King James Version (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Habakkuk 2:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
